Squeelers sits deep inside Nemberala Bay, on the eastern side. It’s a natural wave diffuser — the same south-west groundswells that produce 8-foot barrels at T-Land arrive here as gentle 1-to-4-foot rollers, their energy scattered and tamed by the reef configuration inside the bay.
What makes Squeelers special for beginners is the bottom: soft limestone, not sharp coral. Wipeouts here mean bumps and scrapes instead of the deep lacerations you’d get at T-Land or Bo’a. It’s the only break on the island where you can fall without serious consequences.
The south-east trade winds that blow offshore at T-Land also groom Squeelers nicely, keeping the surface clean even when other spots get blown out. Surf schools run morning sessions here, and you’ll share the lineup with longboarders, families, and beginners of all ages. On a good day there are both lefts and rights, so the crowd spreads naturally.
Don’t write it off if you’re intermediate, either. On low tide during a bigger swell, the wave compresses over the shallower sections and produces surprisingly quick, punchy peaks that are a lot of fun on a shortboard.

Tide
High tide (1.7–1.9m) for beginners; Low tide (0.5m) for intermediates on bigger swells

Safety
Limestone reef is much safer than coral but still hard. Reef booties recommended at low tide. Shallow sections exist — check the depth before diving off your board. Suitable for children with supervision.
Pro tip
Rent a longboard from any shop in the village and paddle out at high tide. The waves are small, long, and forgiving — perfect for working on cross-stepping or noserides. Bring a camera — the light at Squeelers in the late afternoon is stunning.
