Traditional ikat weaving demonstrations, Sasando music performances, and Ti’i Langga dancing. The island’s biggest cultural gathering.

Bonfires, acoustic music, cold beers. The whole expat and surf crowd turns out. No schedule, it just happens.

Community-organized beach clean-ups. Locals and visitors together. Usually followed by a shared meal.

Hari Kemerdekaan. Sack races, flag ceremonies, eating competitions, and marching bands through the village.

Wet season
Fewer visitors, afternoon rain, greener landscape. Rote slows down but doesn’t stop.

Rote is largely Christian. Midnight services, community feasts, fireworks on the beach. Accommodation books out months ahead.

Impromptu performances of the Sasando, Rote’s traditional palm-leaf string instrument. Ask around — there’s no fixed schedule.

Best time for spearfishing and deep-sea trips. Join local guides for early-morning runs to the outer reef.

Visit weavers in their homes and learn the months-long process behind Rote’s iconic hand-dyed textiles. Arrange through the concierge.
