Sand Bank is a beach break right on Nemberala’s main beach. Waist-to-chest-high on most days, with a forgiving sand bottom that makes it the zero-risk introduction to surfing on Rote.
Surf schools run morning sessions here for absolute beginners. The waves are small, slow, and predictable. You can stand in the shallows and watch the sets come, pick your wave, and practice popping up without worrying about what’s underneath you.
It’s not a wave you’d travel for, and experienced surfers will find it too small after the first session. But if you’ve never surfed before, or you’re traveling with kids, Sand Bank is where you start. Every surf journey on Rote begins here.
